Diezel Denzel
Hello!!
Aug 20: Awful news...I thought I had my forever family but I was so wrong. They dropped my off my vet and never even notified Rescue for Life. I am now in the most PERFECT foster home, however I obviously am now looking for my most PERFECT forever home! This time I am going to be extra careful so that I know that my family will go the extra mile for me and they are not just caught up in my story and good looks! My foster family includes my HUGE brother Morely (he's a 160 lbs!), the resident cat, my Mommy, Daddy, and my two-legged brother! Check out the Facebook page for updates from my Foster Mommy - lots of new pics too!
Yes!Yes! I am adopted! Can you believe it? I barely can! I have the most amazing family that includes doggy brothers and sisters and my Mommy! I have other two-legged friends in my family too! I am absolutely in heaven and I have to say that I can't believe that my dream came true! From a dump to a dream is more than any creature can wish for. I am still getting regular check-ups at my vet because I still have lots of quills coming out - I had to be put under again and have more quills removed from my eye. Stay tuned for new pics of me and I want to say a big thank- you to my amazing Foster Mommy who helped me out when I had not found my forever home yet! Thank you, thank you, thank you, to my Gaurdian Angel, to the Crestwood Vet Clinic, to my Foster Mommy, and to my forever family for giving me this gift of life and happiness!
I am the quill dog that was rescued from the dump and I have the most amazing story to tell! I am maybe 3-4 years old and have had an impossiby hard life until now. For the past year I have been living in the dump but I evaded capture because I was terrified of humans - I was simply in survival mode. About two months ago I was noticed again in the dump while Mimi and her pups were being rescued. However, once again I stayed far away and even left the dump when these nice people came to rescue these other dogs.
About two weeks ago, my gaurdian angel came looking under the shack in the dump trying to locate a blonde fluffy puppy with an old broken femur. She was horrified to see me under the shack with hundreds of quills in my face. I was not too see happy to see her because I thought it was another mean human being and besides, I felt crappy. However, she started to bring meat chunks out to my girlfriend (Danni) and me and I watched very carefully how my girlfriend would take the meat chunks from her hand. I wanted some too! I started crawling to her and also taking the meat chunks very greedily but gently! My head was very very swollen with the all the quills as they had already been in for a bit. I was really not doing well but I was not ready to trust this woman yet. So she started bringing me antibiotics and anti-inflammatory and feeding me these in the meat chunks. I started feeling better in just two days! She thought I was sort of funny though becase I would spit the pill out but eat the meat!
Over a period of week my girlfriend and I would hide in the long grasses in the dump and this kind woman would come looking for us in the dump. But we had to make sure it was her! So we would make her wait and keep calling out to us. Just as we were about to disapoint her we would make our way out to her, when we were absolutely sure it was her.
On the day of our rescue (July 3), she once again came out to visit us. We made her wait again and almost dispointed her again. But at the last mintue I came running out to her and bear hugged her! My girlfriend is a little shyer (or maybe a little more ladylike!) so she came up more quietly. Our guardian angel had to climb over a mountain of garbage at the entrance of the dump and she was quite concerned about how to get us in her car. Our gaurdian angel climbed back over the mountain and called us to her and her car. She opened her car door and I knew immediately what she was asking of me - I'm smart too along with good looks! With a couple of "hups" and tapping of the car seat, I jumped in and I was so excited to be in the car! My girlfriend jumped in too and we on the best car ride of our lives!
We got driven in straight to the vet and I kept giving this kind human being kisses on her face and scratching her up with all my quills!
I got all my quills pulled out by my vet. I have to tell you that I think my vet thinks my gaurdian angel is a little "insane". She told my vet that she was scared of me! He even gave her oral sedatives so that I could be asleep when I was brought in but I was such a brave boy that I did not need any of it! He couldn't believe any of this or my whole story because I am the friendliest dog ever! I even gave my vet a bear hug too and he wondered how my quills didn't hurt me more than I was showing!
While I was asleep and having my quills pulled I kept wagging my tail!
So here I am, in love with life again, and for the first time having people love me too.
I am good with other dogs, LOVE people, love going for walks, and LOVE belly rubs. I still have to be tested around cats as I haven't been around any yet.
I am probabaly some type of pitbull or bulldog cross. Maybe with some shep or husky in me. I have the most beautiful colors in my fur. I have a big head on a small body but my heart is even bigger with love!
If you are looking for a special dog with a special story that will love you to pieces for giving him that second chance please consider me!

Pocket Peanut
It's Pocket Peanut (lighter face) and Nutty Cashew (darker face) here! we rescued from the dump and barely made it out! We were very lucky and we are up for adoption now after going through both physical and mental rehabilitation!
We are two tiny sister dogs that survived from our litter. There were four of us that were thrown out in the dump but only the two of us survived before being rescued. Peanut was the first to be rescued because she is the more outgoing of the two of us. I, little Cashew, was more timid and I initially hid from my rescuer and then made her chase me around around the dump until I surrendered. I (Cashew) had to spend a horrifying two weeks all by myself in the dump and it was very scary with the big storms and coyotes all around me. I really rely on my sister - Peanuts - since she is the more outgoing one, but I'm pretty outgoing to once I trust you.
When we were rescued we were walking skelentons - only 8 lbs each. But over the past few months, after being dewormed five times and being fed hypoallergenic food we have doubled in weight and we each weigh about 20 lbs. We had severe sarcoptic mange when we came in but we have known grown all our fur back. We are also now spayed. We are about 1-1.5 years old and full grown!
Our Foster Mommy was very worried about Cashew because she was very depressed when she came in but this instantly changed when we were re-united with each other. It was like finding a friend that had been lost for years - even though it was only two weeks.
We are active little girls and we want to live our lives out together with a very special family. Rescue for Life normally does not mind breaking up littermates but we have begged and made it clear that we want to stay together. We do everything together - eat, play, sleep, and even use the washroom together. It's sort of like we are attached at the hip - we really are like bookends! Just remember we are obly 20 lbs each and we love to tire each other out - so it's really like just having one dog!
We love going to the offleash dogpark, we love cats, and we love people! You will get the most enthusiatic welcome greeting everytime you walk in the door!
Nutty Cashew is doing better with her house-training than Pocket Peanut. We would really like a home that would install a little doggy door so that we could go out and use the washroom when we feel like it. We are also kennel-trained but if you have the doggy door we would be happy to play all day long.
Our rescuer was dying to keep us because she knows how special we are but she already has a lot on her plate so we know we have to find a special forever home.
If you are interested in adopting a special pair of sisters that managed to survive against all odds please consider us! We will shower you with affection and bring you many many moments of joy!
Age: 12 months old
Sex: Female (spayed)
Weight: 20 pounds
Breed: Min Pin cross

Princess Mya
July 4: Hey! I'm finally ready for adoption! I have been with Rescue for Life for 10 months now and 6 months in my current foster home. My foster mommy, along with Rescue for Life, has taught me that this world is a wonderful place. I now LOVE going for walks and getting belly rubs. I'm still on the shy side and I still learning new things everyday. My perfect forever home will include at least one other doggy in the home and no young children since loud, fast things are still not my favorite! Hey, no one is perfect and I just like the quieter life! I am very submissive in nature and I get a long great with other dogs. I love going to the offleash dogpark. I do wear a special harness to stop me from pulling but for me this is a great improvement! I used to be scared silly of just seeing a collar and leash.
Feb 22: I was returned to Rescue for Life as my family did not think I was a match. Over the past couple months my Foster Mommy and new pack has taught me lots of things. I am still on the shyer side and excel better with other dogs around. Everything is still new but if you do things in baby steps with me I do adapt! I now enjoy going for walks with my brother Jasper and sister Petra. I can only walk on a harness as I was tramautized by something around my neck in my past. I respond very well to my harness and I even walk out in front of my brother and sister with lots of confidence! I am now starting to look for my forever family. I would like my forever family to have at least one other dog becuase I still rely on other dogs for my confidence.
Oct 16: Hi...it's me Princess. I am now known as Princess Miah and called just Miah because it was so confusing for Prince and myself. Now I have to make sure that I don't get confused with my two-legged sister's name - her name is Moriah! I want to tell you how much I LOVE my new family. I have the same family as my Prince and I am so so happy about this. I am still learning so much, especially how to trust and even just really basic stuff. My whole family is so kind and gentle with me. I get lots of treats and pets also. For the rest of this year I get to just "settle in" but in the new year I am going to go to obdience classes with my whole family to learn lots of new stuff. Stay tuned for new pics!
Sept 1: It's us...Prince and Princess. Do you recognize us? A few months ago Rescue for Life sent out an email on us looking for foster/adoption homes and noone responded at the time. It became criticial that we be rescued because we got into porcupines and had faces full of quills! On the weekend of of August 29-30 seven volunteers organized a rescue mission to bring us in.
It was one of the hardest rescues Rescue for Life completed because I was very very shy and not sure of people - I was never treated very kindly in my previous life. It took about 10 hours over two days but we brought in both Princess and Prince. They were both brought to the vets and in the past week have recovered from quills and also being spayed/neutered.
Princess: I am a young gal just starting my life! As you can see I am a very pretty girl with many different colors in my fur! Now I love being petted and can't stand to be not around my foster folks! I am a Shep Collie cross and very smart. I made my rescuers be very patient over the course of two days - when I finally felt comfortable I went into the kennel with the yummy food. I had lots of quills removed from my face and in the past week I got spayed!
Although I would love to get adopted with my Prince, it's not required. I would love to go to a home with another dog since I gain confidence from other dogs.
Age: 11 months old

Ellie Elliekins
You may recognize me - I am Ellie from three years ago! I am now 4.5-5 years old. I am being returned to Rescue for Life as my owners feel that they are not the right owners from me. They feel that I need owners that can provide stronger leadership. With the right leadership I enjoy playing with other dogs. However, I do require a pack leader (as do all dogs!) and one that I can trust. I enjoy walks and am kennel-trained and house-trained.
I have completed obdience classes and agility classes. I got to meet a trainer at E&E kennels and five of her dogs and I quite liked them! She says I'm a pretty normal dog that just needs normal doggy corrections.
I was originally rescued from a dump west of Edmonton and am thoroughly enjoying life. I am a Shephard Collie cross and a very pretty girl at about 60 lbs! Because I am a Collie I do have some herding traits like play biting dogs ankles.
If you would be interesed in having me join your family please contact Rescue for Life at (780) 702-6151.
Age: 4.5-5 years old
Sex: Female (to be spayed)

Shellbee Lee Anna
My name is Shellbee Lee Anna and I am a four year old female Corgie x Pug - and as you can see I am super cute! My foster parents got me from some people who were unable to care for me.
For the first couple years of my life I was a stray who ran the streets. I had no home and no positive human contact. Life was was really hard for me and I was really lonely - but I was a survivor!
I got pregnant around the time a lady found me and brought me in. The pregnancy was a nightmare and almost cost me my life. Although I was rescued and in this home, things were not that great for me - I was abused and my life was very scacrey and unpredicatble. I never felt safe. My new Foster parents rescued me when they found out I was going to be eunthanized.
Upon arrival in my current Foster home, I was very skinny and nervous. I never wagged my tail or even raised my head - my spirit was really broken and I had no idea how to play. I was so scared of people that I would just pee in fright. My Foster parents have worked with me though and I am starting to learn that people can be really nice and I'm starting to learn how to play! I am still more a shy, timid, tiny girl but I am so gentle. I was my tail all the time now but it will take a bit for me to warm up to you.
I enjoy being active and love to go for walks but I am also happy to sit with a good movie and get snuggled and petted. I do well with other dogs and people.
My ideal home is to have a kind gentle family and I would LOVE if this included another doggy friend because I gain lots of confidence from the resident dog in my foster home. I would do better in a home without young children as I like the quiet life. I would also LOVE to go to an obdience class because then my new family and me could learn lots of new things together!
If you are interested in meeting me please contact Rescue for Life at (780) 702-6151 or info@rescue4life.org.
